Press RELEASE
Green House Data Joins EPA’s Green Power Leadership Club
Cheyenne, WY -- February 10, 2011 -- Green House Data announced today that they have been named to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Leadership Club, an honor given to organizations that have significantly exceeded the Green Power Partnership’s minimum green power purchase. Green Power Leadership Club members must purchase ten times the partnership’s minimum requirement organization-wide. Green House Data has increased their 2011 green power purchase by more than double over their purchase in 2010. This significant increase is due to the company’s original green data center philosophy paired with the success of their cloud hosting and colocation services, which have attracted customers from around the world in recent years.
“This is such a great honor for Green House Data,” stated President Shawn Mills, “Being recognized for our sustainability goals from the Environmental Protection Agency is an awesome testimony that our green data center is achieving success. We hope to set an example to other companies, especially data centers, which make up one of our country’s largest consumers of energy. It is possible to instill environmental policy within an organization, while at the same time, offer lower priced hosting and colocation services.”
According to the EPA, the amount of green power purchased by Green House Data for 2011 avoids nearly 1,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 200 cars per year or powering more than 130 average American homes for a year. EPA defines green power as electricity that is generated from renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and low-impact hydroelectric. In Green House Data’s case, 100 percent of their green power is supplied by wind power.
"EPA's Green Power partners are tapping into America's growing clean energy market and powering the economy of the future," said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. "Investments like these are smart for business, foster growth in the green energy sector and help protect our health through cleaner air."
Green House Data is set to expand its facility operations with a second cloud hosting and colocation data center within the year 2011. As the number of their facilities increase, they will continue to purchase 100 percent green power and expand their purchase volume accordingly, allowing them to sustain their green business model and sustainability efforts.
